The United States and Europe criticize Vietnam to receive Putin
Vietnam's reception of Putin was criticized by major partners in the United States and the European Union. The U.S. Embassy in Hanoi issued a statement earlier this week that no country should provide a platform for Putin to promote the Russian and Ukraine War.
A spokesman for the European Union in Vietnam said that Hanoi had the right to formulate its own foreign policy, but the Russian and Ukraine War proved that Moscow did not respect international law.
Murray Hiebert, a senior researcher at the Southeast Asian project of Washington Strategy and International Research Center, said that although the United States and its allies expressed concern about Putin's visit to VietnamIt will cause major consequences. One of the reasons is that Washington highly depends on a good relationship with Vietnam to compete with China's competition in the region.
