The fifth national Internet use survey report released on the 23rd shows that online entertainment activities represented by playing games and watching short videos have become an important way for Chinese minors to relax.Minor netizens often play games online 67.8%, and the proportion of short videos online on the Internet reaches 54.1%.
The report was jointly released by the Communist Youth League Central Committee to maintain the Youth Rights Department and the China Internet Network Information Center.The report said that in 2022, the size of Chinese minor netizens was 193 million, and the penetration rate of the Internet on the Internet was 97.2%.
Data show that minor netizens often play games online 67.8%, an increase of 5.5 percentage points from 2021 (62.3%).According to the report, although the proportion of minor netizens who play games has increased, most minor netizens have a positive attitude towards the current management method of restricting the game duration.The time for students to play games is significantly reduced.
The report said that short videos are rapidly penetrating among minors, and it has now become the third largest online entertainment application for minors.The proportion of minors who often watch short videos increased from 40.5%in 2018 to 54.1%in 2022, an increase of 13.6 percentage points in 5 years.32.9%of minor netizens have shot and released short videos on software such as Douyin, Kuaishou, WeChat and other software over the past year.
Minor netizens obtained news events through video platforms such as Douyin, Kuaishou, and B Station, and the proportion of major news reached 55.9%, which has exceeded the proportion of minors (50.2%) that uses TV programs to obtain news events and major news.
The report said that with the increasing popularity of online games and short videos in minors, parents are more concerned about the adverse effects of these online entertainment applications on their children.In a survey of parents and teachers, 51.8%of parents and 69.9%of teachers (mainly the head teacher) believed that the problem of network addiction caused by online games and short videos was the most needed Internet use problem that is currently needed.
