(Washington / Taipei Comprehensive News) Following the cross -party delegation in the United States, former US Secretary of State Pompeo also announced that he will participate in the Taiwan inauguration ceremony held next Monday (May 20).
Pompeo, who had served as Secretary of State during the Trump administration, said in an interview with VOA on Wednesday (May 15) that he would go to Taipei as his personal identity and attend the inauguration ceremony of Taiwan ’s president Lai Qingde.
He said that if he had the opportunity to see Lai Qingde, he would express his expectation to the other party that Lai Qingde could put Taiwan first."If he can do so well, he should also be confident that the American people will continue to support the freedom of the Taiwanese people."
The United States issued a press release on Wednesday on Wednesday of the Taiwan Association announced that a cross -party delegation in the United States will participate in the inaugural ceremony of Lai Qingde on behalf of the American people.The delegation will follow the precedent, consisting of two former US officials, a Taiwanese expert, the current chairman of the United States in the Taiwan Association, and the US Director of the United States in the Taiwan Association.
The members of the delegation include the former presidential assistant and director of the National Economic Commission Dis, former Deputy Secretary of State Amitic, Bu Ruizhe, former chairman of the United States Association in Taiwan, Rosenberg, the current chairman of the Taiwan Association in the Taiwan Association, and the United States in TaiwanSun Xiaoya, Director of the Association.
Pompeo also said that it is not known what mainland China will do before and after Lai Qingde is in office, but if there is a movement in Beijing, the reason will not be that Americans will go to Taiwan.
Pompeo, who has always been Youtai, visited Taiwan in March and September 2022 after leaving the Secretary of State, and met with Lai Qingde.
