Vili Pinis, deputy mayor of Rod Island, told local TV stations: "We now have 4,000 to 5,000 people are placed in different buildings."

He called on people to donate necessities such as mattresses and bedding.

The British Embassy in Greece said that the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs is setting up a service counter at Rod Island Airport to help tourists leave Rod Island and help tourists who have lost travel documents to leave.
