(Bloomberg, Washington) The U.S. Congress prohibits the Department of Defense from purchasing batteries produced by China's largest manufacturer, trying to further reduce the supply chain of the Pentagon to China.
This provision is part of the latest national defense license law passed on December 22. The Ministry of Defense will prohibit the purchase of batteries from Ningde, BYD and four other Chinese companies from October 2027.
The commercial procurement of American companies will not be affected by relevant measures. For example, Ford Motors uses the technology authorized by Ningde Times to produce electric vehicle batteries in Michigan; some of Tesla's batteries also come from BYD.
The other four batteries will be banned, the manufacturer of the ban is from the Vision Energy, Yimei Lithium Energy, Guoxuan Hi -Tech and Haichen Energy Storage.
The decision supplemented the State Defense Authorization Law. Previously stipulated that the provisions of the US Department of Defense's supply chain were decoupled from China, including restrictions on the use of Chinese Chip , but still requires the Ministry of National Defense to clearly define the range.
Although the US Department of Defense's ban is strictly limited to national defense procurement, industry and legislators often follow these rules as the basis for the materials, products and companies in their own business. The U.S. Department of Defense did not immediately respond to the request of the comment.
