Comprehensive Ming Pao and "Hong Kong 01" reported that Xiao Zeyi, director of the Hong Kong Police Department, said on Sunday (February 11) that Hong Kong will start installing 615 CCTVs in March, and it is expected that 2,000 will be installed by the end of the year.These devices are mainly placed on government buildings and street lights, focusing on the high incidence area and dense places of crime.
Xiao Zeyi said that, in view of the high population density of Hong Kong, in the future may increase more CCTVs, the purpose of installation is to prevent crimes, crowd control, maintain public safety and order, and also include preventing and harmful national security behaviors.
He further revealed that in the future, closed -circuit TV or introducing face recognition, emphasizing that citizens do not need to worry, the police will definitely deal with it according to existing regulations.The retention period of the camera records has not been determined, and it will refer to foreign practices.
