(Washington Composite Electric) The State Department of the United States has established a new department that specializes in handling Chinese affairs to better coordinate foreign policies to China and respond to geopolitical challenges from China.

The State Department of the United States issued a statement on Friday (December 16) that State Secretary of State Brills hosted the establishment ceremony of the "Office of China Coordination" on the same day.The statement said that the new department will ensure that the United States can "responsiblely manage" competition with Beijing.

The informal name of the new department is "China House".Brinken said that it will bring together Chinese experts inside and outside the State Council, and work with the State Council's units in various regions of the world, as well as experts in the fields of international security, economic, technology, multilateral diplomacy and strategic communication.

The United States CNN reports that after the establishment of the Chinese group, the number of diplomats focusing on Chinese affairs will increase. In addition to about 60 to 70 personnel in this department, officials from other departments will also take turns to work in this unit and become a cross -departmental operation.

This new unit will replace the original Chinese director of the State Council, but it will continue to be supervised by Rick Waters, deputy assistant to the State Council in charge of the State Council, the deputy assistant to the Chinese mainland, Taiwan and Mongolia.

Brinken said in May this year that the scale and scope of China's challenges have unprecedented tests on US diplomacy, so a specialized unit must be set up.

The Bayeng government has formulated a strategy of competing with China, focusing on strengthening the competitiveness of the United States, including forming alliances with allies and partners. Before the establishment of the Chinese team, the Ministry of Defense and the Central Intelligence Bureau have established similar departments.

After the US House of Representatives Perlis visited Taiwan in August this year, Sino -US relations further cooled. In November, US President Biden and Chinese officials attended the first face -to -face meeting during the G20 summit in Bali Island, agreed to promote the development of bilateral relations in a stable direction. It is expected to visit China for the first time next month.

At the same time, the United States has extended tariff exemptions to some Chinese goods. The U.S. Trade Representative Office announced on Friday that the tariff exemption of 352 Chinese goods expired at the end of this year was extended for nine months. These products include industrial components such as pumps and motors, some car parts and chemicals, bicycles and vacuumers. The tariff exemption of 197 products will not be extended after expiration.

During his tenure, the former US President Trump had increased taxes on Chinese imports from about 370 billion US dollars (about S $ 502.8 billion) from 2018.After the Biden government came to power, these punitive tariffs were kept as bargaining chips with China.
