Germany finally agreed to provide the "Leopard 2" main battle tank to Ukraine on January 25.Earlier, Western allies put pressure on Berlin for several weeks, asking Germany to upgrade military aid against Ukraine, so that the latter can better crack down on Russian invaders.

Germany's provision of main war tanks is considered a major turning point in military aid policies. But in fact, in the past year, Germany has provided a lot of arms for Ukraine.According to data from the Institute of World Economic Research at the University of Kil, as of November last year, Berlin had promised Kiev's promise to provide 2.3 billion euros (S $ 3.2 billion).According to a list released by the German government, in addition to the main battle tank, there are 5 second -generation M270 multi -tube rocket launchers (including ammunition), 14 PZH2000 self -propelled howitzer system, 22 million bullets, 14,000 sleeping bags, etc.

So where do Germany come up with this huge amount?

Many arms provided by Germany to Ukraine are a large part of the Federal Defense Force inventory. The London Institute of Strategy (IISS) pointed out that the Germans have a total of more than 300 "Leopard 2" main battle tanks.

Germany also has the most powerful military industry in the European Union. In 2022, the German government allocated 2 billion euros to provide arms assistance for allies. In principle, this money can be used to order from German military enterprises and subsequently shipped to Ukraine.

In 2023, Germany's finance allocated 2.3 billion euros of funds for foreign fire assistance, most of which planned to provide Ukraine.

The European Union also set up a "European Peace Fund" in the spring last spring to supply weapons to Ukraine. This is also the first time in EU history to set up funds to provide deadly weapons to third countries. As of now, the European Union has prepared about 3.6 billion euros for the Ukrainian army. This money can be used to buy fatal weapons or non -fatal aid.The fund's capital contribution ratio is distributed according to the economic strength of each member country. Germany, with the largest economic scale, is naturally the largest capital contribution. If a member country has provided military assistance to Ukraine, its shared ratio in the fund will be deducted accordingly. For example, Poland, one of the largest arms suppliers in Ukraine, recently stated that this mechanism will use this mechanism to bear the cost of providing German "Leopard 2" tanks to Ukraine.

Before Germany agreed with the country and allies to provide the "Leopard 2" tank to Ukraine, the federal government has always adhered to the "indirect assistance" plan, that is, Germany with advanced equipment to the European Union neighbors, and the latter transfers the existing Soviet weaponGive Ukraine.Berlin believes that the advantage of this plan is that the Ukraine is familiar with the Soviet weapon. Moreover, the German government can avoid providing offensive weapons in the country to controversy the warriors, and at the same time, it can also promote the military modernization process of NATO and the European Union. The solution has been successfully implemented among Czech, Slovakia, Slovakia and other EU neighbors, but Poland has always been dissatisfied with this.
