NATO Secretary -General Stoltenberg said that Turkey has agreed to let Sweden join NATO.
Comprehensive foreign news reports, NATO Secretary -General Stoltenbe on Monday (July 10) held a three -party talks with Turkish President Erdogan and Swedish Prime Minister Christase.
Erdogan requested that the European Union resumed the qualification application of the EU member states that was stagnant in Turkey as a prerequisite for Sweden to join NATO.However, EU officials quickly rejected the request, saying that these were two different issues.
The three parties issued a statement after the meeting saying that Sweden and Turkey agreed to continue cooperation under the common co -joint mechanism of the three sides and the new bilateral security agreement.Sweden will propose a roadmap that continues to crack down on all forms of terrorism, and will continue to carry out bilateral counter -terrorism cooperation with Turkey after joining NATO.
Sweden also said in a statement: "Sweden will actively support the efforts to revive Turkey's joining the EU process."
Stoltenberg said at a press conference after the meeting that Erdogan agreed to submit the Swedish appointment as soon as possible to the Turkish Parliament and closely cooperate with the Turkish Council to ensure that the appointment was approved.
He said: "Joining NATO in Sweden is a historic step, which is conducive to the security of all allies in NATO at the second critical moment."
Christeson said that he was "very happy" and thought that this was "a good day for Sweden."
NATO Summit will be held in Vilnius from July 11th to 12th, and it is expected that Sweden will join the issues such as NATO.
After the outbreak of the Russian and Ukraine War, Sweden and Finland applied at the same time to join NATO last May. Finland's application was approved by all NATO member states in April this year, but Turkey and Hungary have not yet approved Sweden applications.
Hungarian Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Minister Seato stated last week that if Turkey's position has changed, Hungary will not delay the process of joining NATO in any country.
