Iran became the ninth member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

According to Bloomberg, the SCO Summit was held on Tuesday (July 4) in a online form. At the meeting, Indian Prime Minister Modi announced that Iran joined the SCO as a formal member country.He said: "The addition of new countries highlights the importance of organization."

Modi said in the opening white that the topic of this summit includes regional security, economic, food security, climate change, and the situation in Afghanistan.

According to the official website of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was announced in Shanghai, China on June 15, 2001. Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are founding member states.

In 2017, the SCO conducted the first expansion to accept India and Pakistan as a new member country.In September last year, the SCO Samarham Summit signed a memorandum on Iran's obligation to join the SCO.Today, Iran has officially completed various procedures and has become a official member of the SCO.As a result, the official member states of the SCO have increased to nine.
