A person familiar with the matter revealed that China Smart Electric Motor Corporation is planned to set up a factory in Luzhou, eastern Anhui to produce cheap electric vehicles with new brands.
Reuters on Tuesday (February 21) quoted anonymous insiders reported that Weilai plans to launch more easily affordable electric vehicles in 2024.People familiar with the matter did not disclose the official brand name, only the current project codenamed "Alps" and "Alps and Firefly".
Neither Weilai and Luzhou Municipal Government immediately responded to the request for comment.
The Chinese Media Finance News first reported the news first.According to reports, the Fourth Factory of Weilai Automobile will settle in the Economic Development Zone of Luzhou City, Anhui, and will put into production of the third brand product of "Fireflies" in the internal production of Weilai.
A person from the relevant departments of Luzhou City revealed that the factory was integrated on the basis of the original factory of Cheetah.Local China Merchants relevant persons said, "There may be more information announcement in March and April."
