Because of worrying about North Korea's restoration of nuclear tests in the next few weeks, the Security Council held an emergency meeting on Wednesday to discuss it.The U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Greenfield rejected a draft resolution proposed by China and Russia; this resolution aims to lift sanctions on North Korea in 2017.
She pointed out that "two members of the Security Council" believe that the Security Council's restraint will encourage North Korea to "stop making the situation upgrade and return to the negotiating table."
She said: "Obviously, silence and restraint cannot work. It is time to stop the acquiescence (North Korea's behavior) and start taking action. We need to quickly turn to strengthen ..."
Greenfield revealed that the United States prepared another draft updated sanction content and was close to completing the negotiations.
She said: "We can't wait until North Korea conducts more provocations, illegal and dangerous behaviors such as nuclear tests, we need to speak now."
Zhang Jun, a Chinese permanent representative of the United Nations, was worried about the upgrading of the situation. He called on all parties to restrain and believe that strengthening sanctions in a different atmosphere of mutual mutual distrust is unpredictable.
