South Korean courts ruled on Thursday (November 24) that a Chinese man was charged with illegal entry and was in prison for one year and two years of probation.
According to Agence France -Presse, Chinese man Quan Ping took a motorboat in August and departed from Shandong. He came to the area near Incheon, South Korea by Yellow Sea, with a total length of more than 300 kilometers. He carried a binoscope, compass and fuel at the time.
Quan Ping found that the motorboat was trapped in the tide beach near Incheon and could not move forward, and decided to call for rescue. He was then brought into the detention center.
The Incheon District Court believes that Quan did not commit any crimes in South Korea before, so he was sentenced to two years in probation.
Human rights active elements told AFP that Quan Ping also applied for refugee status to South Korea and was waiting for the final decision.
South Korea only approves a few refugee asylum applications each year.
