Austin visited a brief visit in Tokyo on Thursday (June 1), held a bilateral talks with Japanese officials, and then went to Singapore to participate in Shangri-La dialogue .

He added: "But we are united due to common interests and common values. We are taking important steps to achieve modernization of the United States and Japan alliances and strengthening alliance deterrence."

Austin mentioned the three -sided cooperation between the United States and Australia and South Korea, as well as the "speed, scope, and scale of expanding the exercises and training.

He said that the US and Japanese troops are becoming "more functions, more tough and mobility."He also praised Japan to decide to improve its ability to counterattack and improve information with the United States.

In the past year, Pyongyang has conducted more frequent missile testing; Japan has also faced the increase in Chinese ships in response to the sovereignty dispute with China.
