(Morning News) Ruan Shiqing, an internationally famous Vietnamese environmental protection person and anti -coal proposal, was sentenced to two years in prison for tax evasion.

Agence France -Presse reported that according to Vietnamese media, Nguy Thi Khanh was arrested in February this year.

Ruan Shiqing, 46, is one of the few people who have challenged the Vietnamese government to increase coal power to promote economic policies.

Ruan's non -governmental organization Greenid released her news on Saturday (June 18).The Hanoi court confirmed to AFP that Ruan Shiqing was sentenced on Friday, but did not provide more details.

Ruan Shiqing is the first Vietnamese who won the Goldman Sachs Environment Award. Under her efforts, Vietnam officially agreed to peel off 20,000 mega -watt coal power from the national energy plan by 2030.

Greenid spokesperson said that Ruan Shiqing contributed greatly to Vietnam's society and environmental protection, and the court's punishment for her was too heavy.

Michael Sutton, director of Goldman Sachs Environment Award, called on Vietnam to officially release Ruan Qing.

Sadon said: "We think the biggest purpose of the official's legal action for her is to make Vietnam's environmental leaders say."
