According to the South China Morning Post Monday (May 15), the eight public universities in Hong Kong hired 5,120 scholars in this academic year.%; Local scholars in Hong Kong decreased from 1924 five years ago to 1670, and the proportion reduced from two -fifth to one -third; the proportion of overseas scholars decreased from 34%to 32%.

The eight universities are the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong Lingnan University and Hong Kong Education University.

Among the scholars from the mainland, a quarter is working in the Department of Sciences. More than one -fifth of the Department of Engineering and Technology, one -fifth of the Department of Commerce and Management.

Ma Yue, an associate professor of the Department of Political and Administrative Science of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, said that in this change, there are sufficient scholar resources in the mainland, especially in science and technology.In addition, mainland scholars are easier to adapt to the life of Hong Kong, and for them, Hong Kong is not only more free, but the salary and benefits provided by universities are also more attractive.

Talking about the reasons for the reduction of local scholars in Hong Kong in the number of universities, Ma Yue analyzed that this is because more and more Hong Kong people have went to study overseas and immigrants overseas.
