The United Nations Secretary -General Gutres announced on June 26 that Xu Haoliang, who was appointed as the United Nations Deputy Secretary -General and Director of the Development Planning Department.He will replace Usha Laolo-Monali from India.
According to China News Agency, Gutres said in the appointment statement that Xu Haoliang has nearly 30 years of experience in the field of international development.Since 2019, Xu Haoliang has been the United Nations Assistant Secretary -General and Director of the Policy Bureau of the Development and Planning Department.From 2013 to 2019, he served as assistant director and director of the Asia -Pacific Bureau of the Development Planning Department.Earlier, he held multiple positions in the United Nations system and worked at the UN headquarters and many regional offices in Asia Pacific, Europe, and Central Asia.
Before joining the United Nations, Xu Haoliang worked in the field of civil engineering in China and the United States.He has a bachelor's degree in bridge engineering in China Tongji University, a master's degree in scientific science from Stevens Institute of Technology in the United States, and a master's degree in international affairs of Columbia University.
