A new poll shows that after the break in Australia -China relations in 2020, Australians now support to restore dialogue with Beijing and regain China as more economic partners rather than security threats.

According to Bloomberg reported on June 21, Lowy Institute's polls show that about 56%of respondents believe that the recovery of ministerial contact with China is very or more beneficial to Australia's national interests. The dangerous respondents decreased 11 percentage points to 52%, and the same proportion of respondents who regarded China as economic partners reached 44%.

Lowy, a policy think tank headquarters in Sydney, said that the polls were based on a survey of 2077 adults from March 14th to 26th, with an error rate of 2.2%.

However, the survey shows that the chills between the two countries are still there. Five years ago, more than half of Australian interviewees believed that Beijing would act responsibly worldwide, and now this ratio will fall to15%.

In addition, the interviewees' concerns about the possible outbreak of war between the United States and China have intensified, and more than half indicate that Australia should maintain neutrality in this case.

Bloomberg reported that since the left -wing Labor government was elected in mid -May 2022, Australia's relationship with China ’s largest trading partner China has steadily heated up.Beijing canceled the import ban on some Australian goods, and the senior meetings between the diplomatic, trade and the Minister of Defense of the two countries restarted after a long period of interruption.

It is expected that Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanis will also visit China by the end of this year.
