Chen Weian, former secretary -general of the Hong Kong Legislative Council, was appointed as the vice president of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and appointed effective from September 16.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong issued a statement on Monday (August 26) on the official website to announce the above news.

According to the statement, the board of directors of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (referred to as the CUHK) passed the appointment of Chen Weian as the deputy principal (administrative) of the CUHK (administrative) for three years.

At the meeting of the Board of China University of China in February this year, the selection committee started global public recruitment through the establishment of the selection committee.After a wide range of selection, the committee unanimously recommended Chen Weian to the school's board.

Chen Weian has obtained a bachelor's degree in engineering science from Princeton University, a master's degree in Harvard University, and a master's degree in business administration from Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Before investing in public services, he worked in the business community for many years. He has served as an investment bank and a management consulting company, and held multiple senior management positions in the Hong Kong Jockey Club.From 2008 to 2012, Chen Weian served as Deputy Director of the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, and was the secretary -general of the Legislative Council Secretariat from 2012 to 2024.

Chen Weian is deeply honored to be appointed as the vice president of the University of China (administrative). Chen Weian's joining CUHK is the vacancy of Wu Shupei, the former vice president Wu Shupei, who was fired last December last year.
