The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government was announced on Tuesday (May 2)The total number of direct elections will be greatly reduced to 88 seats.
Comprehensive Hong Kong 01 and Sing Tao Daily reported that the total number of seats in the district meeting will be reduced from the existing 479 seats to 470 seats. Among them, there are 88 direct elected seats. The 179 seats are appointed by the Chief Executive.The seats, the remaining 27 seats are of course parliamentarians composed of the chairman of the township committee.
In the last district council election, there were 452 seats generated by the direct election, accounting for about 95%of all 479 seats.
Candidates for the Regional Committee's meeting need to be nominated by the three members of the Division Committee, the Fire Board and the Criminal Determination Committee, and the three committees are voted by the three committees.
Candidates for direct election seats need three committees and three members, plus 50 voters from the election district nominated.
Candidates must also pass the qualification review to meet the principle of "Patriot Governing Hong Kong".The Hong Kong Government will set up the District Council Qualification Examination Committee for this, and the director of the Department of Administration will serve as chairman.
