(Morning News) The World Bank expresses serious concerns about the current situation of Myanmar and the military's launching coup to seize power, and this may seriously crack down on the prospects of Democratic transition and development of Myanmar.

Reuters reported that the World Bank issued a statement on Monday (1st) saying: "In view of Myanmar's internal and external communication channels, we are worried about the security and guarantee of Myanmar people including our staff and partners."

Statement said that in the past 10 years, the World Bank has been a firm partner of Myanmar, supporting Myanmar to transition to democracy, and assisting them with extensive sustainable development and improving social inclusiveness.

The statement said: "We have the same commitment to achieve these goals. We are still concerned about the people of Myanmar."

The information of the World Bank website shows that in 2020, the World Bank gave a loan commitment to Myanmar's US $ 900 million (about S $ 1.2 billion), and the 2017 loan commitment was US $ 616 million.

According to the website information, Myanmar's social welfare situation has been measured since its implementation of the open policy in 2011, and the rate of poverty has also dropped from 48 % in 2005 to 25 % in 2017.
