(Morning News) The Russian News Agency quoted a sources on Wednesday (August 17) that the Black Sea fleet of Russia in Crimea had appointed a new commander.

If the original commander Igor Osipov is really fired, it will be the most important officer in Russia for nearly six months since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

State -owned Russian News Agency (RIA) quoted sources saying that the new commander VIKTOR Sokolov was introduced to a member of the Black Sea Fleet Military Commission at the port of Caavatopol.

Sources said that because Russia is launching so -called special military operations in Ukraine, the Russian army has not publicly announced that this appointment is "normal."

The Black Sea Fleet has enjoyed a high reputation in Russia, but since the Russian army entered Ukraine on February 24, the fleet has been publicly humiliated.

Ukraine launched Neptune missiles in April, sinking the Moscow of the Black Sea Fleet.

According to satellite images, a series of explosions occurred in the Sakki Air Force Base in southwestern Crimea, and eight fighters were destroyed.The base is close to the fleet's Cyavatopol headquarters.
