People familiar with the matter said that American chip manufacturer Nvidia plans to start mass production of artificial intelligence (AI) chips designed for China from the second quarter of this year.
Reuters on Monday (January 8) quoted the above news.Nvidia will begin mass production H20 chips. After the US government issued a new ban in October last year, Nvidia developed the three most powerful models developed for the Chinese market.
People familiar with the matter said that the H20 chip was originally scheduled to be launched in November last year, but because the server manufacturer encountered a problem when integrated the chip, it was delayed.
It is reported that in addition to H20, Nvidia also plans to launch two other chips that meet new restrictions -L20 and L2.However, Nvidia has not announced the sale of any of these three products.
According to earlier reports of Reuters, due to concerns that the United States may tighten restrictions again, Chinese companies are unwilling to buy a downgrade H20 and are testing domestic alternatives. For example, the Chinese Internet giant Baidu ordered AI chip from Huawei and no longer ordered from Nvidia.
According to the analysis of chip specifications of Semianalysis, H20, L20, and L2 contain most of the latest functions used by Nvidia for artificial intelligence work.
