(Beijing News) A fire broke out on Monday (July 24), Great Buddha Temple, Shandan County, Zhangye City, Gansu Province, which has a history of more than 1,500 years, causing damage to the Great Buddha Temple in the temple.
According to the local notification, the fire occurred in the Great Buddha Hall that was under maintenance. After six hours of saving, the Minghuo had been extinguished at 10 am that day, which did not cause casualties.
The Great Buddha Temple of Shandan County was founded during the Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 425). The old name was "Tufo Temple". Its site belonged to the county -level cultural relics protection unit. The Great Buddha Temple adjacent to the site was built in 1998.The Propaganda Department of the Shandan County Party Committee emphasized during the report on Tuesday (July 25) that the fire caused damage to the Great Buddha Temple, but the site of the Great Buddha Temple was not affected by the fire and was well preserved.
