According to the public resume of People's Daily Online, Li Jie was born in February 1955 in Pingyin, Shandong Province, Han nationality, postgraduate degree, researcher, doctoral supervisor, joined the Communist Party of China in May 1973, and joined the army in December 1969.

From February 1979 to March 1983, Li Jie studied in the History Department of the First Branch of Beijing Normal University, and later stayed as a teacher in the History Department of the First Branch of Beijing Normal University.From September 1983 to August 1986, Li Jie studied for a master's degree in party history at the Theory Department of the Central Party School.In August 1986, Li Jie became a teacher of the History Department of the Vocational and Technical Teachers College of Beijing Union University.
