(Morning News) German government officials revealed that a German frigate will set off to Asia in August this year and will pass the South China Sea when returning to the South China Sea. This will be the first time since 2002.

Reuters reports that officials from the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Defense said on Tuesday (2nd) that the warship will not enter the 12 nautical miles of the South China Sea's controversial waters.

China has always advocated the sovereignty of almost the entire South China Sea and built artificial islands and reefs in the waters. The countries and regions that propose some sovereignty in the South China Sea include Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam.

The U.S. Navy regularly performs freedom of navigation in the South China Sea.
