The two leaders attended the joint press conference together after a talk for nearly five hours.
Putin said at a press conference that he hoped that the situation in the Ukraine border could eventually be resolved peacefully. He believed that there was no other alternative to resolving the conflict of eastern Ukraine except the existing Minsk peace agreement.
He said that some suggestions made by Macron on security issues were pragmatic, and said that after Macron met with Ukrainian leaders, he and Macron would discuss again.
Putin said: "Some of his (Macron) thoughts and suggestions, now the discussion may be too early, (but) I think it is likely to be the basis for further discussion between the two parties."
Putin also said: "We have agreed that after he visited the Ukrainian capital, we would talk again, and exchanged opinions on this matter."
Macron said that Putin is positive and shows that he is willing to maintainUkraine's stability and territorial integrity are discussed.
Macron said that he pointed out to Putin that to establish a new security structure in Europe, it should not be achieved by canceling the rights of other countries to join NATO.
Macron added: "The next few days will be an important key, which requires the intensive communication and discussion of our two parties."
