(Washington News) The US Congress nominated six people including Hong Kong Democrats Li Zhiying, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023.
According to a statement issued by the website of the US Congress and the Chinese Commission on Thursday (February 2), the nomination was nominated by the chairman, co -chairman and two former co -chairmen of the committee, including the Republican member Christopher Smith,And Senator Marco Rubio, Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley and Representative James P. McGovern.
The six Hong Kong democrats they nominated include Li Zhiying, the founder of Hong Kong One Media, Chen Rijun, the Catholic Hong Kong Diocese of Hong Kong Diocese, Li Zhuoren, Chairman of the former Hong Kong Branch Federation, Zou Xingtong, vice chairman, former Hong Kong position journalist He Guilan, and former former journalist He GuilanHuang Zhifeng, Secretary -General of the Democratic Party Hong Kong.
At present, except for Chen Rijun, the remaining five are serving sentences due to violation of the Hong Kong National Security Law.
As for the reasons for nominations, the statement stated that the six were "Hong Kong's autonomy, human rights, and the defenders of the rule of law", and also represents a million Hong Kong people who "peacefully protesting Hong Kong's democratic freedom to be eroded".For nominations, members of the US Congress paid tribute to Hong Kong people who "courage and determination to face oppression" and said it inspired the world.
