(Hong Kong News) It is reported that Zhou Yan, deputy secretary of the Henan Provincial Party Committee and secretary of the Political and Legal Committee of the Henan Provincial Party Committee of the Communist Party of China, may replace Xia Baolong as the director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council of China.

Hong Kong South China Morning Post quoted sources that after the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China approved Zhou Yan as the deputy director of the Hong Kong and Macao Office at the June 30th meeting, Xia Baolong has introduced Zhou Yan to the main officials of the Shenzhen Office of the Hong Kong and Macao Office. The two will also go to Zhuhai to introduce to the key team responsible for Macau affairs.

Sources said that at this stage, Xia Baolong will continue to serve as the director of the Hong Kong and Macao Office and continue to supervise and reorganize the work in the next few months. However, Zhou Yan was appointed as the deputy director of the Hong Kong and Macao Office, and Xia Baolong personally started his employment with him in person, showing that Zhou Yan would take over as the director of the Hong Kong and Macao Office.

Zhou Yan did not have his work experience in Hong Kong or Macau before. It was roughly the same as that Xia Baolong was the director of the Hong Kong and Macao Office when he was airborne in 2020.According to sources, this will become a new normal, and Hong Kong and Macao management will be "no isolated units that can only be operated by the so -called Hong Kong experts."

Liu Zhaojia, a consultant of the China Hong Kong and Macao Research Association of the semi -official think tank, studied and judged that Zhou Yan was more influential within the Communist Party of China and can better promote the policies related to Hong Kong in the party organs and government agencies.

Liu Zhaojia believes that Beijing does not require them to have a direct understanding of Hong Kong when choosing senior Hong Kong and Macao Office, because the primary task of this responsibility is to adhere to the policy direction stipulated in Beijing.Conversely, if they have close relationships with local organizations and officials, they may hinder their ability to fully implement the Beijing policy.
