In 1988, Ge Hong was promoted to the Deputy Secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee.
In 1990, Ge Hong was promoted to the governor of Zhejiang Province.
In 1993, Ge Hong was promoted to the Deputy Director and Deputy Secretary of the Party Group of the State Council Special Economic Zone Office. Two years later, he served as the secretary of the party group.
