Li Yan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a researcher at the Institute of Geological Research of the China Earthquake Administration, died.

According to the Guangming Day News, Li Yan died in Beijing on September 10 at the age of 96 at the age of 96.

Li Yan is one of the earliest geologists in the study of earthquake structure after the founding of New China. It has achieved achievements in engineering hydrogenics, military engineering geology, engineering seismic and other fields.

The Guangming Daily commented on Li Yan that he made significant contributions to the site selection and earthquake safety argumentation of major national construction projects such as the Three Gorges Dam and the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station in the Yangtze River.

Li Yan published more than 50 academic papers, more than 10 monographs, more than 80 research reports, and won more than 10 national and provincial and ministerial science and technology awards.

In 1943, Li Yan was admitted to the Department of Geology, the Central National Central University (now Nanjing University of China). Since 1959, he has worked at the Institute of Geology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Geological Research of the China Earthquake Administration. He was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1999.
