Yan Kaitai suffered from esophageal cancer before, and his condition relapsed after his condition improved. The last public appearance was at the Taipei Auto Show at the end of last year.In June this year, he was absent from the shareholder meeting of the three companies under Yulon because of his foot injury. Yan Kaitai is the only son of Yan Qingling, the father of Taiwan's automobile industry. He returned to Taiwan in 1989 to take over the actual operation of Yulon Motors, and was once honored as the young master Zhongxing.

Yan Kaitai took over as chairman of Yulon Group in July 2007, and invested in Dongfeng Yulon in mainland China in 2011.After that, he also invested huge sums of money to build his own car brand Luxgen.

Yan Kaitai was a member of the Kuomintang before his death, and he has publicly supported Ma Ying-jeou on many occasions.When Ma Ying-jeou was re-elected as the president of Taiwan in 2012, Yan Kaitai appeared together with many entrepreneurs to support the 1992 consensus.
