(Washington Comprehensive Report) Gyari Lodrup Gyaltsen, the former special envoy of the Dalai Lama who negotiated with Beijing many times, died in San Francisco on October 29, US time, at the age of 69.

Agence France-Presse and Voice of America reported that Gyari middot; Lodrup Gyaltsen once led the International Campaign for Tibet, which did not disclose the cause of death in the statement announcing his death.

Gyari middot; Lodrup Gyaltsen has been in charge of dealing with representatives in Beijing since 1988 and was appointed as the Dalai Lama's special envoy in Washington in 1990.

Originally a reporter, Gyari middot; Luozhu Jianzan was able to speak well and attracted many supporters for the Dalai Lama in Washington.

When Beijing proposed to negotiate with the Dalai Lama in 2002, Gyari middot; Lodrup Gyaltsen led a delegation to Beijing, Lhasa and other Tibetan areas to participate in the dialogue.

The talks at the time were seen as the beginning of a road to reconciliation between Beijing and the Dalai Lama.But after nine rounds of negotiations between 2002 and 2010, Beijing remained firmly opposed to the Dalai Lama's proposal.

Gyari middot; Lodrup Gyaltsen resigned in 2012 along with another envoy, expressing frustration over the negotiations and deteriorating human rights issues in Tibet.
