Interpol issued a statement saying: The General Secretariat of Interpol in Lyon, France received the resignation letter from Mr. Meng Hongwei on October 7. He resigned as the chairman of Interpol with immediate effect.

The 64-year-old Meng Hongwei lives with his family in Lyon, France. He lost contact with his family after returning to China at the end of September, which aroused concern from the outside world.
