He graduated from the Department of International Politics of the School of International Relations and served as the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs twice.Since 2005, Qin Gang has served as the deputy director of the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and also the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; in 2010, Qin Gang went to the UK to serve as the Minister of the Chinese Embassy in the UK; in December 2011, Qin Gang succeeded Ma Zhaoxu as the Director of the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.And served as the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the second time; in 2014, he was transferred to the Director of the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; since April 2017, Qin Gang has served as Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director of the Protocol Department.
