According to the news released by the official website of the US Department of Justice on Wednesday (October 2), the 34 -year -old Sun Haotian (transliteration) was sentenced to 57 months of prison, three -year supervision release, and ordered to compensate Apple to US $ 1.07 million;Xue Pengfei (transliteration), 34, was sentenced to 54 -month imprisonment, three -year supervision release, and was ordered to compensate $ 397,800.
According to the evidence provided by court documents and trials, from May 2017 to September 2019, Sun Haotian and Xue Pengfei shared with others and submitted counterfeit iPhone for repair to Apple to seduce Apple to replace counterfeit mobile phones into genuine iPhone.
The two received the counterfeit iPhone sent from Hong Kong through different US joint parcel companies (UPS) mailboxes in the Metropolitan area of Washington; then they will be handed over to AppleRetail stores, as well as other authorized Apple service providers.
The Voice of America quoted the US Department of Justice that Sun Haotian opened eight UPS mailboxes with his Maryland driving license and university documents in 2017.
In a series of scams, the two submitted more than 6,000 fake mobile phones to Apple, causing more than $ 2.5 million in losses.The two were arrested in December 2019, and after five days of jury trials in February this year, they were sentenced to guilty.
