(Chicago News) A Chinese citizen was charged with illegal Chinese government agents in the United States and was sentenced to eight -year imprisonment.

According to a press release issued by the US Department of Justice on Wednesday (January 25), the federal jury in the northern district of Illinois ruled in September last year that the 31 -year -old Ji Chaoqun (transliteration, Ji Chaoqun) was charged.Without notifying the US Minister of Justice in advance, conspiracy is a substantial false statement to act as a foreign government, the agent of the Chinese government, and the US military.The US Federal District Court judge made a decision on Ji Chaoqun on Wednesday.

Evidence shows that Ji Chaoqun, who lives in Chicago, provides personal information of some people who may be recruited by the National Security Department of Jiangsu Province in accordance with the instructions of the senior intelligence personnel of the National Security Department of Jiangsu Province.These recruitment objects include Chinese engineers and scientists working in the United States, and some people work for US defense contractors.

The U.S. Department of Justice also said that when Ji Chaoqun applied for enlistment under a recruitment plan in 2016, he lied that he had not had contact with the foreign government in the past seven years.When he was interviewed by the US Army officers, he did not disclose his relationship and contact with foreign intelligence personnel.

According to the press release, Xu Yanjun, deputy director of the Chinese Ministry of National Security issued a mission to Ji Chaoqun.

Xu Yanjun was arrested in Belgium in 2018, and was extradited to the United States for trial. He was the first Chinese government intelligence personnel to be extradited to the United States.He was sentenced to 20 years in prison in November 2021.
