(Beijing/Washington Comprehensive News) Li Shangfu, a Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Defense, will visit Singapore this week and attend the 20th Shangri -La dialogue.This will be the first time that Li Shangfu will attend the meeting as a chief.

According to the website of the Ministry of National Defense, a spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense Tan Kefei on Monday (May 29) announced at a regular press conference that Li Shangfu will be invited to attend the 20th from May 31st to June 4th.The Shangri -La dialogue will make a conference on the issue of "China's New Security Initiative".

During the visit to Singapore, Li Shangfu will also hold a meeting with the Singaporean government and the leaders of the National Defense Department.

Shangri -La dialogue was officially named as the Asian Security Summit. It was a conference on national defense and security conferences of the Asia -Pacific region of the year of the Asia -Pacific region sponsored by the British Institute of Strategic Research (IISS) and gathered in 29 countries.The meeting was held in Singapore in 2002 and will be held from June 2nd to 4th this year.

This will be the first time that Li Shangfu will attend the meeting as the Minister.Li Shangfu ranked first among members of the Central Military Commission announced by the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in October last year. According to the US Department of Defense on May 25, US Defense Minister Austin will attend the Shangri -La dialogue.
