Japanese media reported that China considers the ban on exports of specific rare earth magnet technology to fight back the restrictions on the export of scientific and technological exports issued by the United States.
According to the Nikkei Asia on Thursday (April 6), China's official plans to revise the technology export restriction list. The revised content will be prohibited or restricted to processing and refining the technical export of rare earth elements. At the same time, it is also recommended that the export of alloy technology required to extract high -performance magnets from rare earth will be prohibited or restricted.
The Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Science and Technology announced the draft list last December, including 43 corrections or supplementary contents. The official has completed the public opinion of the experts, and it is expected that these revised content will take effect this year. The content of the last revised list in China was in 2020.
The application range of high -performance magnets is wide, such as the motor of electric vehicles. In 2010, the sovereignty dispute over the Diaoyu Islands (known as Jian Ge) was suspended to Japan for sovereignty.Japan specializes in production of high -performance magnets, while the United States produces these magnet products. This incident aroused the alertness of the United States and Japan in terms of economic security.
Since then, Washington has established a rare earth supply chain in the United States.According to data from the US Geological Survey, China's global share of rare earth output has dropped from about 90%10 years ago to about 70%last year.
A person in the field of resources said that because China is backward in advanced semiconductors, "they are likely to treat rare earth as a bargaining chip because rare earths are the weaknesses of Japan and the United States."
